A powerhouse Napa Cabernet Sauvignon, packed with aromas of mocha, raspberry candy, black licorice, german chocolate cake, fresh pipe tobacco, roasted herbs, and hints of cherry cola. On the palate, it's a stunner. Muscular, vibrant, and impeccably balanced, with wild summer blackberries, juicy plum flesh, rich creamy mid-palate of cappuccino foam, building to waves of undulating chocolate that lead to an immense and fulfilling finish. Drink 2021 to 2041.
Vintage notes
March through August saw a fluctuation of cool and hot days, but the moisture retained in the soils due to a wet spring gave the vines a fighting chance against extreme heat events of the growing season. Crop yields were moderate to abundant and of very high quality for us.
Tasting notes
The 2017 OKAPI WINES Cabernet Sauvignon is a polished, yet rich wine with a deep garnet hue from layers of intense fruit. On the nose, aromatics of black cherry, sweet floral scents, anise, dried sweet tobacco, and dark cocoa. On the palate, we get an intermingling of dark cassis, red cassis, fine-grain tannins giving way to juicy acidity and an overall rich and mouth-coating texture. The finish is lengthy exuding forest floor scents and bright red fruit. A lovely wine that is enjoyable now and can be cellared and taste great after 10 or 15 years.
